Aoife Cogan has revealed her “heart stops” when her rugby boyfriend Gordon D’Arcy gets injured during a match.
The former Miss Ireland admits she is “terrified” he could be left paralysed after seeing other players hit with life-changing injuries.
“I watched a documentary where a rugby player was paralysed from the neck down which terrified me,” she said.

“Gordon assured me they are thought how to take tackles and that you rarly see that in a professional game. But if he goes out during a game my heart stops.”
However Aoife insisted there is a great support system between the players’ partners.
She said: “All the wives and girlfriends are really close and no matter which player is injured the first person you think about is the partner.”

And Aoife, who has now set up a pilates studio, finds it important to be independent as Gordon is away training eight weeks at a time.
She said: “There is a lot of time away, so it was always important that I have my own things going on.”
