Anna Daly opens up about her father’s cancer battle

Anna Daly has opened up about her father’s battle with prostate cancer.

The Ireland AM star has revealed her dad went through treatment during the coronavirus lockdown, and admitted it was “frightening”.

Speaking to RSVP Magazine, the presenter said: “My dad is post cancer treatment so we have been very careful with him.”

“When I say we have been very careful with him, I mean we have been annoying him and telling him to be careful.”

“My parents are very compliant people, they have done all of the right things to stay safe and they cocooned when they were supposed to.”

“He has gone through prostate cancer and all of the treatments went very well,” she continued.

“He went for radiotherapy every single day of lockdown, he was in and out to The Beacon Hospital in Dublin which he should have been cocooning.

“That in itself was frightening but there is no such thing as putting off cancer treatment as anyone who has had a family member going through it will know. He was really brave and I hope that we gave him all the support that we needed.”

“So many families are in this situation but they haven’t had this outcome to see our dad safe and well. I am not saying that the cancer is gone, it will never be gone in his case but he can manage.”

“He is starting to get his strength and fitness back and we are really proud of him for adapting his lifestyle and diet. He has made changes that he needed to make and now he has to mind himself.”

Anna added: “The more you live through experiences like that the more you appreciate the saying ‘You never know what is going on in someone else’s life’.

“Everybody has to get on with their job and do things on days where they are worried or anxious about a family member. You just go onto autopilot I suppose.”
