An Irishman helped Kim Kardashian secure Marilyn Monroe’s dress for the Met Gala

It’s been days since the 2022 Met Gala took place in NYC, and we’re still talking about Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress on the red carpet.

The custom-made sheer dress was worn by the late actress when she famously sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy in 1962.

The reality star borrowed the iconic gown, which is worth over $5million, from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum in Orlando – and it turns out an Irishman helped her get it.

Martin Nolan, who is the co-owner of Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles, played a pivotal role in Kim sourcing the iconic gown.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, the Athlone native explained: “It was Kim Kardashian’s bright idea to try and wear Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress to this year’s Met Gala.”

“And she contacted us as we are the company that sold the dress for $4.81m in 2016. We contacted Ripley’s, who bought the dress and reassured them that Kim would be extra careful.”

“I think Kim’s choice was brilliant because it was a celebration of American fashion and she worked really hard to make sure that she could fit into that dress and wear it like she did.”

While Kim has been criticised for wearing the dress as it carries so much history, Martin believes Kim has given the dress “a new fame” by wearing it 60 years later.

As we previously reported, the 41-year-old was initially told she couldn’t wear Marilyn’s dress to the Met Gala, as it didn’t fit her.

But after Kim challenged herself to lose 16 pounds in less than a month, the museum allowed her to wear the dress as it was a better fit.

The SKIMS founder only wore Marilyn’s actual dress for a few minutes to walk the red carpet at the Met Gala, before she changed into a replica for the rest of the night.

But the question on everyone’s lips is, did Kim have to pay a rental fee for the dress?

Technically the answer is no, but the mother-of-four did promise to make two donations to organisations in the Orlando area on the museum’s behalf.

According to TMZ, the iconic dress will go back on display on Memorial Day, but will be moved to Ripley’s in Hollywood, California.

It’s understood the dress will be displayed alongside other accessories Kim paired with it at the Gala.
