Amy Huberman: 'Brian is always going to miss rugby'

Amy Huberman has opened up about husband Brian O’Driscoll missing playing rugby professionally.

The former Irish rugby player retired last year, and Amy admits that of course he misses the game.

“I think that any professional sports person… [that] doesn’t play anymore will always say [that] they miss it.

“It’s one of your main focuses and something that he absolutely loved so I think they’re always gonna miss it when they stop playing,” she told The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTE Radio 1.

Speaking about how their family life has changed since Brian’s retirement, she admitted it was a ‘big transition’.

“[When Brian was playing rugby] there was so much routine to it and, like yeah his whole career was built around that kind of structure so its hard for anyone to kind of transition from that.”

“But he’s been great, and you know he’s enjoying what he’s doing now and he’s still in the rugby world, albeit in a different capacity, but yeah it is a big change and a big transition,” she added.

The actress and author also revealed that the pair’s family life has changed for the better and is ‘easier’ on her as Brian is able to go over and back from the UK while the World Cup is taking place.

“Well, because it’s in England and some of it’s in Wales, he’s over and back. So if it was further afield he probably would have to camp up there.”

“That’s easier on me with minding babies – that he’s able to come home.”
