Amy Huberman and Brian O'Driscoll's wedding was worth €1million

It’s been revealed Brian O’Driscoll and Amy Huberman’s wedding generated €1million in free publicity for the Lough Rynn hotel.

Clement Gaffney, former director at the four-star hotel in Co Leitrim, insisted the nuptials generated the six-figure sum.

The hospitality director was commenting on a new report by PR firm Wilson Hartnell, which found that a celebrity wedding at Donald Trump’s Doonbeg golf resort delivered €500,000 worth of free coverage.

Although the famous couple who had their wedding reception at Doonbeg are not named in the report – but celebs who held their nupitials in the resort include Andrea Corr and Glenda Gilson.

Clement, who has since left Lough Rynn to take up a new job, confirmed at the time of the 2010 wedding, they commissioned PR firm Murray Consultants to put a value on the publicity.

“It was in excess of €1million. The amount of free marketing spend a hotel can generate from a celebrity wedding can vary quite a lot and the free publicity can be as low as €10,000,” he told the Herald.

He added that the couple’s wedding “was unusual in that it was announced a year prior to the wedding that Lough Rynn would be staging the reception.”

“During that period, there was a huge amount of press, TV, magazine coverage and around the time of the wedding, the national papers gave coverage to Lough Rynn for seven consecutive days,” he admitted.

“We got this incredible exposure. It was wonderful for the people of Leitrim and for the county of Leitrim.

“I have spoken to the couple numerous times since and Leitrim is a very special county for them,” he added.
