Al Porter on his depression: ‘It hasn’t changed me’

The comedian recently opened up about his mental health struggle

Al Porter has revealed that his depression hasn’t changed him.

The comedian admitted last month that he has been taking anti-depressants – and people praised his honestly.

“I’ve done about six different stand-up shows and I still talk about all the normal funny stuff I do, so it hasn’t changed me,” he said.

The stand up comedian told the Herald that he believes everyone struggles with their mental health sometimes.

“But the difference with comedians is that it turns into a talking point because people see them at their happiest on stage,” he said.

“The reason why it’s more interesting when it’s comedians is because, most of the time, the only time people get to see us is when we’re having the craic.”

Since opening up about his struggles on Brendan O’Connor’s Cutting Edge, Al has had to slam claims that his confession was a publicity stunt.
