Aisling O'Loughlin: I was forced to plan what would happen if cancer-hit partner died

Xpose star Aisling O’Loughlin has revealed her cancer-hit partner thought he was going to die – and they planned what would happen if he did.

The TV3 star’s partner Nick MacInnes was told he had leukemia and underwent chemotherapy at the start of this year.

And Aisling said that Nick – who ended up being given just a 40% chance of surviving – fully believed he was dead after his diagnosis.

“I think Nick was worried in the early days when he was rushed over to isolation in Vincent’s A&E with ten doctor’s around him,” she said.

“And the chemotherapy started the very next day, so he knew that it was very serious… Nick was looking at his own mortality and yes, it was full on.”

And Aisling, 34, revealed they even had conversations about what would happen if he died.

“from day one I wanted to know ‘what are your chances?’ I wanted to know straight away what we were up against and I wanted all the details,” she told RSVP.

“Nick didn’t really want all the details. For me, being informed made you stronger because you weren’t in fear of the unknown and Vincent’s were great with information.

“The prognosis was that he has 40% survival rate and Nick focussed on being in that 40%. But of course you do think ‘what if?’

“Nick has two older kids Luke and Oisin who are 10 and 11 and all of Nick’s boy’s really love their daddy.

“He is very much a hands-on father, he is very present in his four boy’s lives and he matters a great deal to them.

“My joke was that I would go before him the way he was going and you never know – it could happen yet. None of us know how long we will be around for.”
