Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has confirmed that an official Derry Girls book is coming out later this year.
The hit show follows the lives of friends Orla, Clare, Michelle, Erin and Dylan – who attend an all-girls school in Derry during the Troubles in the 90s.
Now fans will be able to read more about the beloved characters from the perspective of Erin from the show, in the new book Erin’s Diary: An Official Derry Girls Book.
“I’m thrilled to be able to share our first ever official Derry Girls Book with the world,” Lisa told Stylist.
“Erin’s Diary was such a joy to write. I loved spending time with these characters again.”
“The book will reveal some new information about old events as well as some brand new antics from Erin and the gang – hopefully it will keep fans laughing until series three hits the screen,” she added.
Saoirse Monica Jackson, who plays Erin in the show, teased what to expect from the book – narrating a hilarious extract in which the 16-year-old character writes her acceptance speech for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
The book will also include newspaper clippings, doodles, poetry, school reports, handwritten notes from Erin’s friends – giving the diary an authentic feel.
The book’s synopsis reads: “Erin has troubles of her own, like the fact that the boy she’s in love with (actually in LOVE with) doesn’t know she exists.”
“Or that her Ma and Aunt Sarah make her include her weirdo cousin Orla in everything she does. Or that headteacher Sister Michael refuses to acknowledge Erin as a literary genius.”
“Not to mention the fact that her second-best friend has ALMOST had sex, whereas Erin’s never even kissed anyone yet. These are Erin’s Troubles.”
The book will be released on 12 November, and is available to pre-order HERE.
