Maura Higgins and Giovanni Pernice became one of showbiz’s hottest couples after confirming their relationship in July.
During their whirlwind romance, the Love Islander and the Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer shared plenty of loved-up snaps, were set to move in together, and there was even reports that a proposal was on the cards.
Earlier this week, fans feared the couple had split after noticing they had deleted all photos of each other from Instagram.
According to The Sun, the TV personalities have called it quits after a four-month romance, and Maura is reportedly “absolutely devastated” by the break-up.
Take a look at the timeline of Maura and Giovanni’s whirlwind romance:
Maura and Giovanni first sparked dating rumours in June of this year, after they appeared at a number of venues at the same time.
After following each other on Instagram, the couple shared snaps staying in the same hotel in Cornwall.
Later that month, they both shared snaps from the Italy v Austria Euros match, fueling the romance rumours.
A source told The Sun at the time: “They’re a thing now. At first it was just a couple of dates and some fun but it’s getting more serious and they’re clearly really into each other.”
“They certainly look great together but they’re really getting on well, too. They’re both busy with careers but hopefully the summer will give them time to get to know each other better.”
“They’re keeping it a bit quiet as they’ve both had failed public relationships but it’s hotting up really fast,” the insider added.
Maura previously dated fellow Love Island stars Curtis Pritchard and Chris Taylor, while Giovanni has dated former Strictly co-stars Georgia May Foote and Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts in the past.
In July, Maura confirmed she was seeing a mystery man by sharing a photo of her holding his hand while on a date.
Soon afterwards, Maura revealed the identity of her new beau, going Instagram official with Giovanni.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, the Longford native shared a loved up snap with the Italian dancer, writing: “I’m yours ❤️.”
Giovanni also took to Instagram to confirm their relationship, captioning his photo with Maura: “You’re mine ♥️.”
While Maura returned to Ireland to film her RTÉ show Glow Up Ireland, Giovanni took to Instagram to pine over his girlfriend.
He wrote: “Missing my babygirl ♥️ @maurahiggins,” in the since-deleted loved-up snap, while Maura replied: “Not long now baby ❤️.”
After Maura flew back from Ireland, the couple reunited for a romantic date night.
That same month, Giovanni whisked Maura away to a 5-star hotel in London for a romantic night away.
He took to his Instagram Stories to share a stunning photo of his Irish girlfriend, with the song ‘Just The Way You Are’ by Bruno Mars playing in the background.
The lyrics of the song include: “And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while. Cause girl you’re amazing, just the way you are.”
In September, Maura paid tribute to Giovanni on his 31st birthday with a sweet Instagram post.
She wrote: “Happy Birthday to the man who makes me feel beautiful and loved every single day, You make my world complete. I love you❤️ @pernicegiovann1.”
That same month, it was confirmed Giovanni would be returning to Strictly Come Dancing as a professional dancer.
Giovanni shut down rumours that the so-called Strictly curse would break him and Maura up.
The supposed curse refers to individuals taking part in the show who are already in relationships, who end up finding romance with fellow participants.
He told Hello Magazine: “Maura is absolutely fine, in the sense that it’s not a curse, I’m going to dance with my celeb, and she will be supporting me all the way.”
“Realistically, if you’re happy in your relationship there is no reason for the curse. If you’re happy with your wife or with your husband, you wouldn’t go on Strictly to cheat.”
Three months after they confirmed their relationship, a source told The Sun that Giovanni’s friends “would not be surprised” if he proposed to Maura.
“Nobody would be surprised if they end up getting married because Giovanni has been saying she is the one he wants to be with forever,” the insider explained.
The couple were also reportedly planning on moving in together earlier this month.
A source told the MailOnline: “Things have become serious very quickly between Maura and Gio and they are now ready to move things up a level by getting their own place.”
But later in the month, the couple sparked split rumours after deleting all photos of each other from social media.
A source told The Sun earlier this week: “It’s all over for now. Maura’s absolutely devastated, it appears the Strictly curse has struck again.”
“Pals are hoping that they can patch things up. But only time will tell whether they’ll work things out as Giovanni is so busy. Maura’s decided to take a step back and let him concentrate on the show.”
The couple have not yet confirmed their split, and fans are hopeful that they will stay together.
On Wednesday, Maura shared a snap from a hotel room in London, and eagle-eyed followers spotted their were two champagne glasses in the photo.
Is it all over for Maura and Giovanni, or is there still hope that the couple will work things out?
