From The Meteors to The IFTAS: The Top 14 Moments Of Ireland's Awards Shows

Award season is in full swing and we recently announced that the first ever Gossies 2016 Awards will be held on February 21.

As Ireland’s best and brightest gear up for the bash of the season, it got us thinking about all the award shows from years past and the looks the stars brought to the red carpet.

Goss.ie brings you our top 14 best and worst looks from years gone by.

1. Westlife at the Meteors

Meteor Awards Arrivals

Remember the time Westlife showed up at the Meteor Music Awards and Nicky had PLATINUM BLONDE HAIR?!

We’re sure we swooned at the time, but looking back now – how did that seem like a good idea?!

As well as the mix and match pin-stripe suits, we’re sure the Westlife boys LOVE looking back through the years of their, ahem, many bad hair days.

2. Rosanna Davison at the IFTAs

IFTA Award Red Carpet 2007

As one of Ireland’s top models, Rosanna has been a fixture on the Irish social scene for years.

Here’s the former Miss World attending the glamorous IFTA awards way back in 2007.

We think Rosie may have taken some inspiration from Amy Winehouse with that hairdo and boy, that’s a lot of pink.

3. Kerry Katona at the Meteors

Meteor Music Awards 2006

Let’s not forget the time Kezza showed up in a questionable matching blue satin outfit back in 2007.

We all know Brian McFadden’s ex loved being centre of attention back in the day, and she proved just that as she showed up at the Irish music awards ceremony – despite her having split with Brian.

But she didn’t stop there, the Atomic Kitten star decided to snog her mate Sam on the red carpet – as if that wouldn’t attract any attention.

4. Glenda Gilson and Matt Dillon at the IFTAs

7th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards

We love it when an Irish award show brings in an international star or two.

Here’s a throwback to the 2012 IFTA awards when Xpose’s Glenda Gilson walked the red carpet with Hollywood actor Matt Dillon (swit swoo).

They would have made quite a handsome couple!

5. Charlize Theron at the Meteors

The Meteor Awards Batch 3

Who can forget the time a Hollywood A-lister showed up at the Meteor Music Awards back in 2008.

The actress graced the famous orange carpet with her former partner Stuart Townsend, who dated from 2001 to 2010.

Mind you, the A-lister was probably questioning what she was doing there the entire time, buy hey! It was exciting at the time!

6. The Xpose team at the TV Now Awards

TVNow Awards - Red Carpet

The TV Now Awards celebrate the best and brightest Ireland has to offer on the small screen.

The Xpose team looked quite different back at the 2008 awards.

Taking a look at former presenters Lorraine Keane and Sybil Mulcahy is giving us serious nostalgia for the old days, although it does look like at least four of them were on their wedding day…

7. Sinead O’Connor at the IFTAs

IFTA Award Red Carpet 2007

Ah before Sinead destroyed her beautiful face with tattoos, the singer looked fresh back at the IFTAs in XX.

The Nothing Compares 2 U singer went for a blue crochet dress paired with a pair of brown ugg boots.

Not our favourite outfit choice, but what a beauty!

8. The Pussycat Dolls at The Meteors

Meteor Awards 2007 Arrivals

There was no better time than when The Pussycat Dolls attended the 2007 Meteor Music Awards.

The girls had all the fellas wishing their girlfriend was as hot as them and making all of us cailíní wishing we were just as hot.

The Pussycat Dolls were HUGE circa 2007, so basically it was like having the Queen of England at the awards.

9. Samantha Mumba and Glenda Gilson at the Meteors

Meteor Awards Arrivals

Blast from the past or what?!

It appears Glenda and Samantha were BIG fans of see-through black chiffon and diamanté details, but lets not lie – we all dressed like that back in the early 2000’s.

We’re sure the girls love looking back at their fashion choices over the years.. and the Meteor Music Awards choices were no exception.

10. Rosanna Davison and Wes Quirke at the TV Now Awards

TV NOW Red Carpet

2007 has given us quite a few blasts from the past and here’s another in the form of Rosanna Davison and her then boyfriend (now husband) Wes Quirke at the TV Now Awards.

Like we said,  Rosanna is a fixture at these awards shows so she was bound to pop up more than once on our lists.

The Wicklow model went for  a floorlength strapless tulle dress with a gold belt – that’s one way to make an impression.

11. Amanda Brunker and Lisa Cannon at the TV Now Awards

Guests Leaving the 'TV Now Awards' 2009, Dublin, Ireland

Not all the memorable moments happen on the red carpet.

Here’s former Miss Ireland Amanda Brunker and TV3 star Lisa Cannon leaving the TV Now Awards after party in 2009.

Amanda seems to have dropped a few bits and bobs outside Dublin’s luxurious Mansion House and fair play to Lisa for giving her a helping hand.

12. The Blizzards at the Meteors

Guests arrive on the red carpet for The Meteor Music Awards, RDS, Dublin, Ireland

HAHAHA – we’re sorry but, remember when Bressie looked like this?!

The tartan blazer, the slicked gelled hair – it’s all a little too much for us here in Goss HQ.

Thankfully, Bressie has now stepped up his game in the style stakes, maybe thanks to his model girlfriend Roz Purcell?

13. Rosanna Davison at the TV Now Awards

Guests Leaving the 'TV Now Awards' 2009, Dublin, Ireland

Okay, we swear this is the last time we’re including her.

Here’s Rosanna Davison leaving the TV Now Awards after party in 2009.

The Irish model went for n exotic look that year, but we’re really not sure about that heasdscarf.

14. Saoirse Ronan at the  IFTAs

7th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards

Finally, just to round things off, here’s Saoirse Ronan at the IFTA Awards in 2010.

The Carlow actress has come a long way since this awards show and she’ll soon be walking the red carpet at the 2016 Oscars for her nomination for Brooklyn.

The 21-year-old kept it simple with a figure hugging purple dress.
