Queen Elizabeth’s flight aborts landing due to ‘lightning storm’

Queen Elizabeth’s flight had to abort landing on Tuesday evening due to a lightning storm.

The 96-year-old was travelling from her Balmoral estate in Scotland to Windsor Castle ahead of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which are due to take place later this week.

Buckingham Palace confirmed to The Sun that her 13-seater plane, which was supposed to arrive at RAF Northolt air force base, was unable to land due to the storm.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen’s flight was delayed due to a lightning storm, all the correct procedures were followed and there were no safety concerns.”

There was a 15-minute delay but the pilot eventually landed the Queen safe and sound.

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations will begin on Thursday, June, 2 with the traditional  “Trooping the Color” parade kicking of the festivities.

Members of the Royal family are then expected to make an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony – but Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Prince Andrew will not step out on the balcony.
