Meghan Markle’s estranged brother apologises to her and Prince Harry after sending ‘awful mean’ letter

Meghan Markle’s half-brother has apologised to her and her husband Prince Harry for the “awful mean” letter he sent them before their wedding day.

Thomas Markle Jr. described the former Suits star as a “jaded, shallow, conceited woman” in a scathing open letter to Prince Harry, shared with In Touch Weekly, prior to the couple’s royal wedding in 2018.

The 55-year-old told the Duke of Sussex at the time that it was “not too late” to call of their wedding, and claimed his sister would “make a joke of [Harry] and the royal family heritage”.

While appearing on Australia’s Big Brother VIP on Monday, Thomas, was challenged to write an apology letter.

He wrote: “Dear Meghan and Harry, the first thing I want to say to both of you is that I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart for the awful mean letter that I wrote to you prior to your wedding.”

“And I want both of you to know it did not come from the real person that I am, but came from a very dark and hurt part of my heart… I am not a mean person at all, and I have more love inside me to give than anything.”

Thomas added that he was offended at the time after Meghan described him as “distant family.”

He wrote: “I was very hurt and confused because of the amazing bond and relationship we shared growing up together and all I could do was put up a defense wall to protect my heart. I know that it was very immature and wrong and I truly regret it.”

“When your relationship with Harry became known to the world, my life then became public. I along with everyone in our family became public figures overnight. No more privacy. And let me tell you it was very, very stressful to have to deal with [that] all alone and no help at all.”

“A real nightmare and constant pressure. I wish I could turn back the clock and do it all over, knowing what I know now.”

Thomas continued: “I would have never tried to communicate any of my feelings in the media. I feel like a complete a** for what I have done, and I am truly sorry for that.

“Meg, if I could really turn the clock back, I would truly tell you that I am so, so proud of you and truly I am so happy for you and Harry. And I love you. You are my little sister, my family and you always will be. Now you have found the love of your life and started a family of your own.. couldn’t be more proud of you.”

“The last several years of my life, I have grown and learned a lot more of myself and I must say that what I did to you with that letter is quite possibly the biggest mistake of my life.”

“I truly hope you and Harry find it in your hearts somehow to accept my sincere apology because this is the real Tom Markle Jr. I truly love you guys and I want you to know that about me. I wish you Megan, Harry, Archie and Lily the happiest, most loving life possible. Sincerely, your big brother, Tom.”

Meghan and Harry tied the knot at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018.

The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Archie, on May 6, 2019.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their second child, a baby girl named Lilibet Diana, on June 4 this year.
