Meghan Markle is still waiting to become a British citizen, despite being a prominent member of the Royal family.

The 38-year-old permanently moved to the UK two years ago, and became the Duchess of Sussex when she married Prince Harry in May 2018.

An insider told MailOnline: “Meghan is not yet a British citizen.”

“It might seem extraordinary, given that she’s been married to the Queen’s grandson for 18 months, but she accepts that it’s a slow process.”

According to official government guidelines, Meghan might have to wait until 2020 to apply for citizenship, as you have to have lived in the UK for at least three years before the date of your application.

Meghan will also have to take the Life in the UK test, and will be quizzed on local customs and traditions, the history of the UK, laws, and the political systems that govern the country.
