Kate Middleton makes emotional return to St. Patrick’s Day event following cancer treatment

After being unable to attend the special St. Patrick’s Day event last year, Kate Middleton made an emotional return to the 2025 Irish Guard’s St Patrick’s Day Parade.

The event took place at the Wellington Barracks on March 17, 2025, in London, England.

Kate attended the event as colonel of the Irish Guards for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The Irish Guards named the Princess as the honorary Colonel back in 2022.

The princess presented some of the soldiers with awards for good behaviour and lengthy service as she kicked off her holiday visit to Wellington Barracks in the centre of London.

She then joined the parade, wearing a dark green coat and hat that matched, and participated in the customary offering of ornamental shamrock sprigs to the officers and guardsmen.

After the parade, Princess Kate met Mini Micks, young Northern Ireland cadets, and several Irish Guards veterans.

Next came the opportunity to partake in some of the festivities inside.

The senior guardsman in the battalion proposed a toast with a pint of Guinness to their Colonel, the Princess of Wales, so Kate joined in the festivities in the junior ranks’ dining hall after sitting for the commemorative official officers’ and sergeants’ mess photos.

Last year, Kate Middleton missed out on her traditional outing at the St. Patrick’s Day parade amid her ongoing surgery recovery.

However, the Prince and Princess took to their Instagram to mark the Irish holiday.

They wrote: “Happy St Patrick’s Day! Here’s a sneak peak of the @irishguards rehearsing for their annual parade. Sláinte to all those celebrating today! 🇮🇪”

Earlier this month, Kate Middleton looked radiant in red as she returned to the annual Commonweath Day service at Westminster Abbey for the first time since her cancer treatment.

The Princess of Wales and her father-in-law King Charles were both forced to miss last year’s service, as they were undergoing treatment for their respective cancers at the time.

In videos shared online, Kate looked happy and healthy as she arrived alongside her husband Prince William.

In March 2024, the Princess of Wales announced that she was undergoing treatment for cancer, which was discovered after she underwent abdominal surgery that January.

After receiving chemotherapy for many months, the 43-year-old confirmed that she’s in remission in January 2025.

She wrote: “I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year. My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more.”

“The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”

“In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead.”

“There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support,” she wrote at the time.
