Rick O'Shea: 'I'm in constant fear RTE will axe my show'

Radio star Rick O’Shea has admitted he is always worried about his 2FM show being axed.

With Hector losing his breakfast show and Will Leahy being moved to the weekends in a 2FM shakeup, Rick said there has been a lot of change.

The DJ told Goss.ie that he is always worried about his job:

“I’m always nervous. We’re in constant fear. It’s that thing of it can happen at any time.

“But you have a life to get on with and bills to pay like everyone else, so you do live in constant fear. But I think that’s healthy,” he told Goss.ie.

“People did lose their gigs, people were moved on, moved to other locations, but for Cormac (Battle) and myself we were the only ones that got left where we were.

“I went and had a conversation, and Dan, the boss, said ‘just stay where you are, keeping doing exactly what you’re doing, we’re really happy’.

“I had that moment of going ‘did I hear that right?,” he explained.

Rick added that he has been “shuffled around” a few times since joining the station in 2001, but said this year there is a new buzz about the place.

“I’ve been here since 2001 and there’s a new energy. We’ve never done anything like this, I’ve never felt this amount of energy.

“I think I’ve been shuffled around nine or ten times over the years. For a lot of people there was a lot of change,” he said.
