In a world of his own! Nicky Byrne signs deal to present 2fm show

Ex-Westlife star Nicky Byrne has been lined up as 2fm’s newest presenter.

The Dubliner will have his own weekday morning show on the station – the Nicky Byrne Show.

RTE have axed Colm Hayes from his 11am programme to make space for the 35-year-old, who will be joined by a co-presenter.

Delighted Nicky said: “There is a real belief from within about where the station can go – the thought of being on air Monday to Friday is daunting but very, very exciting.

“It is a massive opportunity for me, one in which I hope I can deliver on forming a successful relationship with the station for many years to come.

“Now it’s time to start planning, developing and presenting my new show and I really can’t wait to get chatting to our listeners nationwide daily.”

He first got experience at 2fm when he took the reigns from Ryan Tubridy when he was off for free.

During the stint, Nicky managed to convince 2fm boss Dan Healy that he had a future in the station’s shake up.

Dan – who used to be in charge at 98fm – claimed he had been talking to Nicky since taking over despite previously vowing there would be “no more Nicky Byrne because we have great broadcasters”.

He said: “I am thrilled that Nicky is joining the team. I started to talking to Nicky about 2fm as soon as I arrived.

“I believe that Nicky will appeal to young audiences through instant likeability and humour.”

An RTE spokeswoman said Colm was still part of 2fm with a new time slot.

Last week 2fm signed up Bernard O’Shea, Keith Walsh and Jennifer Maguire for the breakfast show in their first part of the shake up.
