He's not leaving: Ryan Tubridy insists he won't he taking over from Derek Mooney on Radio 1

Ryan Tubridy has exclusively confirmed he won’t be taking over from Derek Mooney on Radio 1.

The Late Late Show host is the centre of intense speculation he will be heading back to the station in the New Year.

But Tubs told Goss.ie that he won’t be parachuted into his colleague’s afternoon slot when Derek leaves for a new weekend role in January.

Asked if he was looking to take on the role, Tubridy said: “I’m absolutely not moving to Mooney’s slot.”

However it is understood by Goss.ie that he is still being considered for a Radio 1 comeback as part of a total overhaul in the New Year.

Meanwhile, Tubridy, 41, said it “hasn’t been a bad year” for him after the Late Late Toy Show and a boost in ratings.

He said: “The Toy Show was a real highlight for me because such enormous work went into it and I think that really showed.

“The kids were fantastic and it actually took me about four days to come down from that high – it was very exciting.

“I was delighted and it was a big result – it did so well and it showed RTE at its best, that when we pull it together we can produce something good.”

Now Tubs is gearing up to reveal a new Late Late Show set in January.

He told Goss.ie: “The new set is being built and it’s looking really good. I’ve been working close with the designer, who has been very tolerant of my less than welcome interference.

“But if they get what I’m hoping is in my head out then we’re in business.”
