Hector leaves his Today FM radio return early after sad death of his mum

Hector O’hEochagain was forced to leave his new role at Today FM after his mother passed away.

The former 2FM star made his long-awaited radio comeback on Monday, warming up for Anton Savage in Ray D’Arcy’s former slot.

But listeners were surprised when comedian Neil Delamere was back the next day – with it now emerging his mum Trina had died.

Starting the show yesterday, Neil said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Hector can’t be with us today but we hope to have him back with us very soon.”

Fans have posted messages of condolence on Hector’s Facebook page, ahead of the funeral tomorrow.

Previously, Hector said his mother, who ran a bookstore in his hometown of Navan, gave him his interest in broadcasting.

He added that his catchphrase ‘keep her lit’ came from his mother always having a candle burning in their house.

Hector’s Today FM gig comes almost one year after he was famously axed from RTE 2fm director Dan Healy  and has since vowed to never return to his old station.

Despite the axe, ratings on 2FM’s The Breakfast Republic did not improve and lost up to 13,000 listeners following Hector’s departure.
