DJ Neil Prendeville has hit out as his former employer’s latest advertising campaign.
The Cork man has recently moved from 96FM to Red FM – with his ex-station hoping to try and save listeners.
But Neil has been left angry that their new slogan – “Why play with the knob?” – references the time he exposed himself and masturbated on an Aer Lingus flight in October 2009.
He told the Irish Star: “I haven’t seen it and I don’t want to see it.
“I find it very upsetting because I had to work very hard to move on from that period in my life.
“And I’m really, really disappointed that they would do this.”
Controversial: The campaign Neil is annoyed with
But 96FM’s programme director Kieran McGeary insisted they didn’t want to annoy Neil.
He added: “It wasn’t our intention to have a swipe at Neil. We wanted to get the message across not to ‘move the dial’ but Newstalk had already used the expression.
“I am not in the business to be taking swipes at Neil. We said we were disappointed when he announced he was leaving, but we wished him the best and we left each other amicably.”
