Derek Mooney says goodbye to RTE radio listeners – with Ray D'Arcy set to take over

RTÉ host Derek Mooney has officially signed off from the airwaves.

The radio presenter went on the Mooney show for the last time today, thanking fans for listening.

Derek, 46, is set to become RTE’s Wildlife Executive – and will work across radio programming and TV.

“Thank you to you for listening for all those years for making it such a strong programme,” he said.

Co-presenter Brenda Donoghue also thanked Derek for working on the show for nearly a decade.

“I’ve loved working with you,” she said.

“My favourite part of my working day was sitting down and talking to you at 3pm. I hate to admit it, but I’ve learned so much watching you ,” she added.

New host: Ray is taking over in February

Ray D’Arcy is set to take over the show in February, with Marty Morrissey taking over for the time being.

Ray left his popular show on Today FM after 14 years and will have some projects on RTE television in the new year.
