RTE radio star Derek Mooney has walked away from his daily radio show Mooney.
The presenter will finish up his RTE Radio 1 show this December, with a new host coming in to replace him next month.
RTE have yet to confirm who will be taking Derek’s slot, but said they will make an official announcement soon.

Speaking about his exit from radio and his new position in programming Derek said:
“There’s a wonderful world of nature out there.. it’s time to explore it and no better place to do it than on radio but we won’t stop there.
“We will use every bit of technology and social media available to bring the natural world to our audience, wherever and however they choose to listen or watch.”
Derek will now have a weekend show Mooney Goes Wild on RTÉ Radio 1 and Derek will also produce a new nature strand on RTÉ Radio 1 which will air in autumn 2015.

It had been previously reported that Derek would be leaving his show to make way for Ryan Tubridy to host his own show on Radio 1.
However RTE denied that Ryan would be moving from 2FM.
Meanwhile head of the station Tom McGuire said Derek’s new role will be just as important as his work over the last ten years.
