Derek Mooney plans to open a Eurovision-themed cafe when he quits RTE

Derek Mooney has revealed he plans to open a Eurovision cafe when he eventually leaves RTE.

The Radio 1 presenter said when he can find the cash needed he would love to open the European themed premises “before it all ends”.

He added: “I would open a little a cafe, a kind of Eurovision cafe… Eurovision themed but with all the nicest cakes from all around Europe.”

The Eurovision superfan, who recently quit his Radio 1 show to make way for Ray D’Arcy, said the cafe would have “specialty cakes” such as an Austrian “apple strudel.”

Nul Points: Derek Mooney would love to open a Eurovision Cafe

Speaking about his foodie dream on his RTE radio show, the Montrose star insisted that “people come in and have they’re favourite cake, coffee and tea.”

It seemed that his guests backed up his out there ambitions with Lisa Fitzpatrick saying it was “a lovely idea” whilst sharing that madeira is her favourite cake.

However it looks like Lisa would be disappointed with Mooney’s cafe offerings as her beloved madeira “wouldn’t qualify” on the Eurovision menu as they don’t currently compete in the Eurovision.
