Damien Dempsey gets into the festive spirit with charity Christmas single

Big-hearted Damien Dempsey has become the latest star to release a charity Christmas single this year.

The Dubliner has put out a cover version of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s classic festive track – Happy Xmas (War Is Over).

He collaborated with the RTE Concert Orchestra and the John Murray Show, with cash from the track going to mental health charity Aware.

And Radio 1’s  John Murray said: “Dempsey’s take on the Lennon/Ono classic is very refreshing, moving gently and tenderly at the start but ending with the passion and strength that listeners have come to expect from him.

It is taken from A Murray Christmas 2 – an album that offers listeners an alternative Christmas soundtrack with artists including Lisa Hannigan, The Riptide Movement and Mick Flannery.

Damien has been working over the years with people who struggle with depression and other mental health problems and while his own original songs often touch on the struggles of life and how to overcome them.
