98FM stars Dermot & Dave have bizarrely had a day named after them in America – after a US listener lobbied for it.
Superfan Mary Gadeken initially tuned into the Dublin radio show on her mobile phone application and fell in love.
She then bought Dermot Whelan and Dave Moore over to Baker, Florida where she lives and introduced them to the town’s mayor.
Lord Mayor of Crestview, David Cadle decided to name May 13 as Dermot & Dave Day in Baker, with celebrations taking place across the town, which has a population of around 28,000.
Excited: Mary meets the Lord Mayor of Dublin
Now the 98FM pair have bought over the woman who made it happen to Ireland and even got her a meeting with Dublin’s Lord Mayor Oisin Quinn who officially welcomed her to Ireland.
But strawberry picker Mary – who stayed with the presenters at their homes – admitted she barely slept the day before after being afraid of embarrassing herself.
She said: “Oh my goodness I am so humble about meeting y’all’s Lord Mayor. He is so sweet for taking the time to meet me.
“I didn’t sleep the night before as I was worried that a might dig myself into a hole as I’m such a big talker! I am seriously grateful and humble to meet him.
“I can’t believe that this was all a result of stumbling upon Dermot & Dave’s show on the 98FM app a year ago – I’ve been hooked like bait on a fishing rod ever since. I am happier than a possum eatin’ a sweet tater to be here!”
