2FM's Rick O'Shea changing track – as he lands a POETRY show on Radio 1

2FM star Rick O’Shea will be presenting a new poetry-themed show on RTE Radio 1, it has been announced.

The radio DJ will be changing lanes and presenting The Poetry Programme on RTE’s mother station at the end of the month.

A change from his usual demographic on RTE’s 2FM, the weekly show will explore established and new poets across the emerald isle.

Excited Rick said: “This is going to be a great honour and a new adventure not only for me but for new listeners wanting to experience contemporary poets and their poetry.

“I’ll be the first to hold my hand up and say I’m no expert on the subject, just an amateur who is passionate about the written and spoken word. To be hosting my own programme on Radio 1 for the first time is a huge thrill.”

Whether this signals the presenter’s permanent move from 2FM is yet to be seen.

Having revealed during the summer to Goss.ie how he is in constant fear over losing his 2FM show, his new radio programme comes after a number of shake ups at the national broadcaster.

> The Poetry Programme starts on 24 January on RTÉ Radio 1 at 7.30pm.
