Popular clothing store on Grafton Street is about to go into liquidation

This will be a big loss for Dublin

American Apparel on Grafton Street has been appointed a provisional liquidator by the Dublin High Court.

The popular shop’s American parent filed for bankruptcy back in 2015, this means that it could no longer support the Irish branch with stock supplies, and credit and finance management.

The central location houses the only American Apparel store in Ireland, it has been open since 2007.

According to the Irish Independent, the company made a loss of over $1.4 million in 2014, which is what caused the claim for bankruptcy in 2015.

Also in 2014, the chain’s founder Dov Charney was fired following the result of one of the many sexual harassment cases that he was tied to.

The courts will reconvene in December to discuss the liquidation matter further.
