The 2024 Olympics is set to begin this weekend in Paris, with the Opening ceremony taking place on Friday.
With the pre-game preparation done and athletes getting ready to compete, the excitement for the world’s sporting event is rising.

Where and when can we watch?
The Olympics takes place in Paris, France form Friday, July 26, 2024 to Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Paris will become the second city ever to host the Summer Olympics three times, having previously hosted the 1900 and 1924 games.
Irish watchers can watch and extensive coverage of the games on RTÉ as the broadcaster has promised to bring the excitement and spirit of the Games to audiences, ensuring that every moment of Team Ireland’s journey is captured and celebrated.
RTÉ will deliver over 250 hours of live action from France across RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, with three live daily programmes, live coverage of the main events on RTÉ Radio 1, RTÉ 2FM and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.
The Irish Team
It has been one hundred years since Ireland sent its first team of 44 to the Olympics.
A team representing Ireland has competed at the Summer Olympic Games since 1924 and the Winter Olympic Games since 1992.
Paris 2024 will see the largest ever Irish contingent travel to the Olympics, with 133 athletes competing across a wider array of sports than ever before.
Some of Ireland’s top medal prospects inlcude sprinter Rhasidat Adeleke, boxing champion Kellie Harrington and gymnast Rhys McClenaghan who are all looking to nab the gold medal in their events.
The Opening Ceremony
The official launch date of the 2024 Olympic Games is Friday, July 26th, 2024, with an opening ceremony on the River Seine.
The record-breaking ceremony see the opening happen outside a stadium for the first time.
The ceremony will begin at 6.30pm and is due to last for more than three hours.
It will be broadcast on live RTÉ2 with coverage beginning from 6pm, with streaming also available on the RTÉ player.
Sarah Lavin and Shane Lowry will be the two flag bearers for Team Ireland.
The world’s Olympics teams set to parade along the River Seine in boats in the heart of the city as 300,000 spectators overlook the ceremony.
Rumoured to perform at the opening ceremony is Céline Dion and Lady Gaga – however, nothing has been confirmed.
The Olympic Games will finish on August 11th with a ceremony at the famous Stade de France in Saint-Denis.
