X Factor star Ben Quinlan bidding to represent Ireland at Eurovision – and prove Mel B wrong

Former X Factor star Ben Quinlan has revealed he’s entered the competition to represent Ireland at Eurovision.

The Killarney singer, 19, is known for giving a green rose to Cheryl Fernandez-Versini on the ITV series before he performed.

Now Ben – who was booted off the show at bootcamp by Mel B – revealed he’s penned a track that he’s hoping will take him to Eurovison.

He said: “It’s very new, very fresh, it’s an Irish pop song with a twist.

It comes as RTE have decided to dump their mentor system, allowing anyone to put themselves forward for Eurovision.

And Ben told the Star he had planned to perform it at X Factor before being brutally booted off.

He added: “If I’d actually performed it at X Factor I wouldn’t have been able to enter it into Eurovision.”

Last year, Ireland was disappointed when Kasey Smith failed to even reach the finals, while the year before Ryan Dolan came last.

Already Jedward have said they want to go back for a third time, while former X Factor contestant Mary Byrne is also putting herself forward.
