Westlife star Shane Filan has been booked to support Garth Brooks in Croke Park – two years after saying farewell there with the band.

The Sligo singer – who has been touring Asia – will support the US country sensation on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27.

He said: “I have just been confirmed as the opening act for Garth Brooks in Croke Park in July. I am so excited.”

And up-and-coming Irish country star Nathan Carter has also been booked in to support Brooks for two nights at Croker.

Sources told the Irish Mail that this is a dream come true for Shane, who has spent the last year touring his solo album after fighting back from bankruptcy.

“This gig will be the icing on the cake for an incredible 12 months for Shane. He wrote his debut album and had a sellout Irish tour… to play Croke Park again as a solo artist is just a dream come true for him,” a source said.

“He has always looked up to Garth Brooks and to have been hand-picked by the promoters and approved by the star himself is a major endorsement for him.”

More than 400,000 people will see Garth Brooks play at the GAA stadium – making it the biggest cash cow concert in the world this year.
