Ronan Keating doesn't mind Boyzone's album flop – as the band are a 'panto act'

Ronan Keating does not mind that Boyzone’s latest album has been a flop – saying the band are more like a panto act.

Their latest motown-inspired record – Dublin to Detroit – gave them their lowest chart placing in the group’s history and failed to make the Irish Top 10.

However Ronan insists he is not bothered by the flop and is focusing his attention to performing as Guy in London’s West End production of Once.

Panto: Ronan thinks Boyzone are a tongue-in-cheek act

“Boyzone is a bit tongue-in-cheek. It’s a bit panto. We take it seriously but we have a bit of fun with it and I think that’s the way it should be” he said.

This comes soon after ex-manager Louis Walsh told the band to split up saying “enough is enough”.

Not convinced: Louis thinks Boyzone should split up

“Motown? I mean to do Motown you have to be amazing singers and I don’t know whose idea that was but it was the worst idea in the world, it really was” Louis said.

“Boyzone cannot do Motown, next thing they will be doing Irish Republican songs. it’s time to go out and go out with a little bit of dignity.”

The Mayo man added: “They haven’t really had a hit record since I left if I’m honest.”
