It comes as RTE have decided to dump their mentor system, allowing anyone to put themselves forward for Eurovision.

And the Mayo X Factor judge says that Orla could be the “young fresh talent” that Ireland needs to finally not flop at Eurovision in Vienna, Austria.

He said: “X Factor’s loss could be Ireland’s gain at Eurovision”. He added to the Star that she “should have gone further in X Factor” and “should go for” Eurovision.
