Niall Horan wants more girls to play golf

Niall Horan has called on more girls to take up playing golf – as he admitted that he’d like to try his hand at coaching.

The Mullingar native was playing against fellow celeb golfers, including Brian O’Driscoll and Piers Morgan, at the BMW PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth Golf Club in Virginia Water, Surrey.

Speaking to the Press Association at the event, which raises money for Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens, Niall said, “I would really like to see a lot more girls playing it.

“Because the girls’ tour at the moment, the LPGA tour, is absolutely amazing, and there should be more kids playing.”

While Niall, who recently formed Modest! Golf Management, admitted that his chances at becoming a professional golfer have now passed, he revealed that he wouldn’t mind being a coach.

“If I could teach I would, but not at the moment,” he said.

Niall sent fans into a frenzy recently by hinting at a solo career as golf superstar Justin Rose shared a snap on Instagram of the pair writing songs for the Horan and Rose Gala Dinner and Pro-Am day – which will take place this weekend.

Unfortunately, Niall dashed fans hopes as he admitted that it was all just a joke.

“We were just in the house and he has a piano and he was trying to write a song about his caddy to the tune of Hello by Adele – and I don’t know if you’ve ever heard him sing but he’s horrific – so we were just doing it as a joke.

“The whole media took over that we were writing songs together and its was blown out of proportion and we were only having a laugh,” he explained.
