Never-before-seen video of One Direction being formed on The X Factor goes viral

A never-before-seen video of One Direction being formed on The X Factor back in 2010 has gone viral on social media.

To celebrate the boyband’s 12th anniversary, Fremantle Media released a previously unseen clip of judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh creating the group.

The trio are seen looking at a table of headshots, before Nicole suggests they create “an imaginary boy group instead of just saying, ‘no.'”

In the video, Nicole takes a photo of Niall Horan and places him in a separate pile.

The judges then come across Harry Styles’ headshot, and agree that he should be in the group with Niall.

After adding in Louis Tomlinson’s photo, Nicole excitedly says: “Yes! They’re the cutest boyband ever! I love it. The little girls are gonna love them.”

“They’re just too talented to get rid of and they’ve got just the right look and the right charisma on stage. I think they’ll be really great in a boyband together,” Nicole continued.

“They’re like little stars, so you can’t get rid of little stars, you know? So you put them all together.”

The trio then added Liam Payne to the line-up, however, Simon then suggested he be moved to a different group.

But Nicole interrupts: “I don’t think so, I think he will definitely shine. He [Liam] could actually be the leader.”

Simon then says, “He thinks he’s better than everyone else,” and Louis agreed, “He does Simon, he really has the confidence. But he’s good. He’s consistent.”

After finding Zayn Malik’s headshot and adding it to the group, Simon admits: “Now that is a good idea, oh my god. That is the category I want, it’s them.”

The clip was shared by The X Factor on Twitter on the band’s 12th anniversary, alongside the caption: “When you’ve waited TWELVE YEARS to find out exactly how One Direction was formed! FINALLY, here’s how.”

It’s safe to say fans were delighted by the unseen clip, which has already been watched over 1 million times on social media.

One Direction appeared on the seventh season of The X Factor, which aired on ITV in 2010.

While Matt Cardle ultimately won the programme, One Direction went on to become one of the best-selling boybands of all time.

During their time together, the band released five albums, went on four world tours, and starred in their own movie – before they went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.

One year prior, Zayn sensationally left the band to pursue a solo career.
