Neil Young turns down Glastonbury as he believes event is ‘now under corporate control’

Neil Young has announced he has turned down Glastonbury as he believes the event is “now under corporate control” of the BBC.

In a post on his website, the 79-year-old singer-songwriter, who was the festival’s main act in 2009, made the announcement.

He claimed that he and his band were to “do a lot of things” they were not interested in.

He said: “The Chrome Hearts and I were looking forward to playing Glastonbury, one of my all-time favourite outdoor gigs.

“We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in.”

“It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being.”

“Thanks for coming to see us the last time.”

“We will not be playing Glastonbury on this tour because it is a corporate turn-off, and not for me like it used to be.”

“Hope to see you at one of the other venues on the tour,” he concluded.

Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan and Charli XCX

This follows after The Sun reported that Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX have been booked for the festival.

A source told the publication: “Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX will all play Glastonbury next summer.

“Charli will headline The Other Stage and Chappell will be playing the Pyramid Stage.”

“Olivia is coming straight to Worthy Farm after playing BST Hyde Park, so her slot is being firmed up.”

“Emily really wanted Glastonbury to go back to its rock roots but by bringing in three of the world’s biggest female stars to play too, she is making a real statement.

“Glastonbury always has something for everyone but next summer’s line-up is really impressive in terms of the spectrum of acts and how big they are.”

In november, it was reported British pop rock band The 1975 were being “lined up” to play Glastonbury 2025 on the Friday night headline slot.

The band was rumoured to play this year’s festival but will finally take to the Pyramid Stage next summer.

The 1975

The group consists of Matty Healy, Adam Hann, George Daniel and Ross McDonald and has been teasing new music.

A source told The Sun: “Matty and his bandmates are more than ready to play the Pyramid Stage and they are available.”

“Festival organiser Emily Eavis has long wanted The 1975 on board, but they couldn’t make it work last year.”

“They are being lined up for the Friday slot at the moment, and all the signs are really positive.”

While the lineup is yet to be announced, the band are hoping to headline the festival after performing there three times before.
