Mary Byrne on her lack luster salary: 'I'm quite happy to earn €12.60 an hour'

Mary Byrne has revealed she would be perfectly happy earning 12.60 an hour and thinks it would be “good earnings”.

The former X Factor star admitted that in “no way” is she rich since leaving the famous show but is enjoying her career more than ever.

“When you come out of The X Factor, people think you are going to become an automatic millionaire and that isn’t the case. By no way am I poor but by no way am I rich either,” she said.

“[The tabloids] said I was earning 12.60 an hour and I think that’s good earnings.

“If I was getting that every week, that would be a great job to have. When I go to a gig I get paid a certain amount of money and that has to cover me until the next gig.”

The former Teso worker revealed that although she is glad she decided to stay in Ireland with her family, she knows would have earned a lot more money in the UK.

“Financially it would have been a hell of a lot better to stay over there because there would have been more gigs and more money,” she told RSVP magazine.

“My daughter is here, my friends are here and my family are here.I do have animals too, I am a big animal lover. I couldn’t leave them behind.”

I don’t mind commuting back and forth and I do that the odd time and there will be more of that coming up this year. I am happy I came home, yes it is less money but it is a good life.”

The Dublin native also opened up about falling on hard times as a single mother while struggling to raise daughter Deborah.

“I wasn’t working at the time and I was getting lone parents allowance, but then I went on to get a part-time job and eventually a full time job. Deborah helped me get through the hard times,” she added.

“She seemed to understand that Mammy just didn’t have the mony and we had to pay rent, ESB and buy food and clothes. She played the game with me and was fantastic.”
