Lily Allen has spoken out about allegedly being sexually assaulted by a music executive.
The singer opened up about when she was sexually abused while asleep and stated that music industry is “rife” with assaults like this.
The 33-year-old said that she wanted to name her abuser in her autobiography, but was legally advised not to.
Lily stated that she fell asleep after getting drunk at a party and was woken at 5AM by a music executive who was assaulting her.
‘I moved away as quickly as possible and jumped out of the bed, full of alarm … I found my clothes quickly … and ran out of his room and into my own,” she told the Guardian Weekend magazine.
“I felt betrayed. I felt shame. I felt anger. I felt confused,” the mother-of-two said.
“If things went down, I told myself, he’d win,” she continued, after she stated that she never reported the assault as the man had more power and money than her.
Lily said that she hopes the next generation will be able to stand up against the predatory behaviour of the music industry and said: “Let’s try and teach our daughters to be stronger and more resilient, better at being less grateful, more insistent on being taken seriously, louder at saying no.”
