Garth Brooks could now end up playing Croke Park – in 2015

Garth Brooks could still end up playing at Croke Park – after the stadium’s boss invited him to play next year.

The US country legend ended up letting 400,000 fans down after he pulled the plug on five dates at the GAA stadium after licencing issues.

But Croke Park stadium director Peter McKenna – who said that was a “fiasco” – hopes he can finally play the venue in 2015.

“We would love to have Garth back. There are certainly dates available in 2015,” he said.

“It could be tied in at the end of his World Tour which Garth is now starting. What happened with Garth Brooks was a complete fiasco.”

However Peter – who said Croke Park lost €5 million from the axed shows – won’t be speaking to Peter Aiken from Aiken Promotions for a while.

“It’s very raw with Peter. He has taken a huge battering and bruising,” he said.

“I want to pay tribute to Peter, and entrepreneurs such as Denis Desmond of MCD who make shows like this happen.”

He added that Garth was right to refuse to play matinee shows which he felt wouldn’t have worked in Croker – but are happening in America.

“With 80,000 fans going out, meeting 80,000 coming in,” he said. “That’s 160,000 people. The US matinees are in much smaller venues.”
