The Script will be playing their biggest ever gig – after they were confirmed this morning as playing Croke Park.

The Dublin lads have said they are “delighted” to perform to a massive 82,000 people at the home of GAA.

Concert bosses MCD announced the show will take place on June 20, with support from Pharrell Williams. Tickets will go on sale next Thursday at 9am.

They have said there will be more support acts to be announced, with it understood Kodaline and Hozier will also play a part.

Frontman Danny told Goss.ie they “always try to progress the band on” but love “the electricity that we get from performing in front of a crowd, this is our home town.”

He added: “I wouldn’t feel right if at some point during our career we didn’t get to play Croke Park. When I come off stage it will be the item for me ticked off the bucket list.”

And Danny promised that fans will have a moment they will never forget.

“When we’re in a place this big, you do worry about people down the back and not being able to connect with them.

“Everyone who goes to a Script show, knows I get into the crowd – I might get a zip line in so I can get around quicker.”

But Mark insisted that the group aren’t worried about selling out all the shows.

He laughed: “I think we’re more nervous about the weather than the ticket sales, with Bono being able to call Bill Clinton every night, we’re going to call Garth Brooks.”

Delighted Mark said: “When you’re growing up in Ireland, your dream is to play The Sugar Club, then the Aviva, and then this big beast. We’re really excited to play Croke Park.”

It is the first time that Danny O’Donoghue, Glen Power and Mark Sheehan have played Croke Park, with their biggest date to 55,000 at the Aviva Stadium.

Support: Pharrell will join The Script

The last band to play Croke Park was One Direction in May, following on from Westlife’s two farewell dates.

It comes months after Garth Brooks pulled out of a phenomenal five nights at Croke Park, after Dublin City Council refused to let all the days take place.
