Bonnie Ryan: 'It doesn't matter that Gerry Ryan was my dad, it's whether people like my music'

Bonnie Ryan has said she won’t be speaking about her legendary father Gerry Ryan in the public – she just wants people to focus on her music.

The Dublin star launched her pop career last weekend when she released her debut video ‘Out Tonight’ and so far the music video has got over 70,000 views in a week.

Although until now Bonnie has been known as “Gerry Ryan’s daughter”, the singer-songwriter has said she wants to stand out on her own.

Speaking on the weekend of Gerry’s sixth death anniversary Bonnie said she wants to keep that part of her life private.

“If it’s okay, I’m not going to talk about that, it’s just something that I’m not that comfortable talking about with the public,” she told the Irish Mail On Sunday.

“I think at the end of the day it’s down to whether or not you are any good or if the song is any good,” she explained.

“No matter what my name is or what family I came from, at the end of the day it’s all about whether people like the song.”

Bonnie added that she has been “in and out of the studio” as well as working a part time job, but her plan is to focus on her singing career full time.

“Up until now, I am just an average person working to get by,” she said.
