Avril Lavigne has announced new music in an open letter.

The Canadian singer revealed the news on her website in an open letter, detailing her struggle with Lyme disease, which has affected her tremendously since her diagnosis.

Avril said she has endured the “worst years of my life” and has been through “both physical and emotional battles”.

As she announced the name and release date of the first single from her new album, the 33-year-old revealed how her struggles with the disease lead her to write new music.

The singer told her fans that she wrote the single from her bed, when she was at her lowest point: “I had accepted death and could feel my body shutting down,” she explains. “I felt like I was drowning. Like I was going under water and I just needed to come up for air.”

The music helped her find strength, and the release is her way of telling the story to fans.

“I have decided to be truthful about my struggle, open and more vulnerable than ever before,” she said, before announcing that her foundation will now provide Lyme prevention resources. Soon, she will launch an initiative to educate and help others fighting the disease.

She did not announced the name or release date of the album, however, she did reveal that the single would be out on the 19th of September.
