Michael Fassbender didn't have to audition for his role in Frank

Lenny Abrahamson has revealed Michael Fassbender never auditioned for his role in Frank.

The Irish director admitted that X Men star Michael is so famous he doesn’t need to audition for movies anymore.

“There’s a point in which actors pretty much don’t audition anymore,” he said.

“When actors no longer need to audition, I totally understand why they don’t. An actor spends a large part of their life, unless your Jack Reynor and it all happens for you straight out of the blocks.

“But most actors spend a long time auditioning, being treated often quite badly and having basically no power at all in the industry.”

“And then when they finally reach the point where they’ve established themselves, they really don’t want to do it anymore.

“I get it because their work is out there, I can see how brilliant they are. You can make judgments on their body of work,” he explained.

Frank: Michael plays quirky singer Frank in the movie

Lenny revealed that he did speak to Fassbender about the role and that they discussed the film before coming on board.

“I didn’t audition him, but there are these leaps you have to take, we talked about it.

“He loved the script , he found it really original, very funny and the thing is he is a very funny person Michael.

“He’s got a very good sense of humour. Having somebody that charismatic, that interesting, who really wants to play it. I just had to go ‘yes’,” he told An Irish Man Abroad.

“Then what happens is you wake up in a cold sweat you know, but I woke up in a cold sweat about everything in this film, it wasn’t just Michael.”

Thankfully Michael worked out perfectly, and critics are praising his performance in the movie.

“He’s great, he’s just really really good. What you learn is most actors that are extremely famous are extremely famous for a reason,”

“Which is that they’re great,” Lenny added.
