The Stag has become the most successful Irish film to be released in three years.
And the movie – which stars Amy Huberman – is on target to become the biggest ever and overtake The Guard.
Already The Stag – which cost €600,000 to make – brought in €500,000 by the weekend.
A success: A scene from the Stag
It was fourth in the Irish film charts last weekend – a month after being released – and was number 17 in the UK charts for its first two weeks.
Producer Rob Walpole insisted that the film is now battling against films like Muppets Most Wanted which had “a bigger catering budget” than their entire spend.
