Simon Delaney has opened up about his awkward run in with Ellen DeGeneres.

The TV3 star, who is currently promoting his new film The Conjuring 2, revealed that the studio he filmed at for the movie was next door to the Ellen show – and the chat show host greeted him a few times.

Despite being greeted by one of the most well-known faces in the world, Simon reckons she thought he was somebody else.

“We were filming next door to Ellen and every day she would drive up in her Porsche and beep at me and say hello. I reckon she thought I was security,” he told the Irish Sun.

The 45-year-old also admitted that he had to get over his fear of horror movies – before starring in one.

“It’s very different for me as I’d never made a horror film — I’ve never even watched one. Breaking Bad scares me! I get upset watching the Angelus.

“My wife Lisa [Muddiman] said to me when I got the gig ‘You’re going to have to watch The Conjuring purely from a professional point of view to watch how the director works’. But I got about 20 minutes into it and ran screaming like I’d seen a spider in the room.

“I couldn’t bring myself to do it. If there’s a butterfly in the house, Lisa gets it out, not me!” The horror sequel follows the ghost-busting couple from the first film and Simon plays the neighbour of the character who calls them in to investigate what’s happening in her house.”

Simon is seeing huge success with The Conjuring 2 as it took in €36million at the box office last weekend.

The actor has previously starred in Moone Boy, Trollied and Bachelor’s Walk, as well as American legal drama The Good Wife and funny film Delivery Man.

Now, Simon is delighted that he got to be a part of such a huge Hollywood hit.

“This is a big studio picture for Warner Brothers, a proper Hollywood movie.

“In the film myself and Maria Doyle Kennedy play Vic and Peggy Nottingham who are the nextdoor neighbours and my character gets caught up with what’s happening with the house next door.”

Simon, who hosts Saturday AM alongside Anna Daly, revealed why he went for the role – stepping away from his usual roles involving comedy.

“What attracted me to the film was the director James Wan who is certainly a horror movie legend. And now he’s moving more mainstream — he did the Fast and Furious 7 — he’s a hot ticket and a little bit of a genius.

“The cast were good and the script was amazing and I thought am I ever going to get the chance to do a horror movie again in my career?

“And of course it was being shot in LA. I have to be honest though, I flicked through the script and it was full of crucifixes and priests so I went through it at a rate of knots but then I was thinking, ‘What’s it going to be like on that set?’ because I’m used to comedies,” he added.
