Ruth Negga nominated for Critics’ Choice Award

The actress isn't the only Irish name to be nominated

Ruth Negga has been nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actress.

The actress was chosen for her moving role of Mildred Loving in her new film, Loving, which tells the story of an interracial couple in 1950s Virginia who illegally married.

The Limerick native has already a rack of awards and nominations under her belt including an Oscar nod.

With her nomination for a Critics’ Choice Award, there is a lot more talk that she will be nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars.

Her co-star, Australian actor Joel Edgerton, plays her husband Richard Loving and their film was shortlisted for Best Film at the coveted awards.

Meanwhile, another major movie of the year, Sing Street, has also been nominated in the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Drive It Like You Stole It from John Carney’s film was nominated for Best Song at the Critics Choice Awards.

Set in the 1980s, the film follows Dublin boy Conor who sets up a band in the hopes to woo the girl he fancies.

The awards take place on December 11th in Santa Monica.
