New Charlie And The Chocolate Factory film will focus on Willy Wonka

The movie will be an origin story

The new Charlie And The Chocolate Factory film will apparently focus on Willy Wonka.

The original story was created by Roald Dahl in 1964 about a young boy named Charlie who wins a chance to meet the eccentric chocolatier and tour around his factory.

“It’s not a remake. They’ve done two films, quite different. But it’s possibly an origin story,” producer David Heyman said.

The novel was first brought to the big screen in 1971 and starred the late, great Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka but was later recreated in 2005 by Tim Burton who gave the famous role to his pal Johnny Depp.

“It’s challenging because you don’t have Dahl, you don’t have a Dahl book, and yet you have a Dahl character,” David told Slash Film.

“But I think there’s a lot in his character that suggests who he is and also where he might come from or what his childhood or his middle age might have been like.

“So we’re exploring that. We’re discussing it. We’re in the very early stages and very excited about what lies ahead.”
