Michael Fassbender's quirky movie Frank a hit at the American box office

Michael Fassbender’s Irish-made film Frank has become a hit in America – after triumphing at the box office.

The Hollywood actor starred in the film along with Domhnall Gleeson wearing a paper-mache mask for the majority of the movie.

Now it has emerged that the Lenny Abrahamson directed flick made around €13,000 over its first three days in America.

It was only released in one cinema in New York, but the takings are seen to be impressive for an independent film without massive advertising.

And it was only beaten by fellow Sundance film The Trip to Italy over the weekend in terms of its earnings.

In a bid to try and increase promotion of Frank, Kerry hunk Fassbender even sang in character as Frank on Comedy Central’s chat show, The Colbert Report.

Last week, Goss.ie told how Michael ended up working as a bar man inbetween films before hitting the big time.

It has been a good few weeks for Irish independent films in America, after Calvary also became a huge hit at the box office.
