Love/Hate's Peter Coonan to play former Anglo chief David Drumm in new movie

Love/Hate star Peter Coonan will play a very different role in a new film – when he takes on despised former Anglo chief David Drumm.

The Dublin actor will play the role in new TV3 feature film The Guarantee, which will be seen in cinemas around the country.

And Peter revealed the only way he plans to get in character is by listening to the Anglo Tapes.

“The Anglo tapes are all you need really. They give so much away about events and the people involved,” he told the Irish Sun.

The new film is recreating the drama of the Irish Government guaranteeing our banking system in a secret late-night meeting – and could be sold abroad once it is filmed.

And Peter will hear Drumm telling of the need for “moolah”. In the tapes, Drumm says: “Get into the f***ing simple speak ‘We need the moolah, you have it, so you’re going to give it to us and when would that be? We’ll start there’.”

The movie – which is written by Colin Murphy, and based on his stage play of the same name – also sees David Murray and Brian Lenihan.

Actor Gary Lydon plays Brian Cowen, while Morgan Jones will be shamed Sean Fitzpatrick.

A TV3 spokeswoman said more details about The Guarantee and the cast will be announced in the coming weeks.

Filming of The Guarantee will get underway in TV3’s custom-built HD Studio on July 21.

It comes ahead of the new season of Love/Hate getting underway on RTE in September.
