Jamie Dornan pays tribute to WWII heroes at film premiere

Jamie Dornan has payed tribute to WWII Czech heroes at the world premiere of his new film Anthropoid, which he stars in alongside Cillian Murphy.

The premiere took place during the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, and Jamie took the time to pay tribute to the war heroes that inspired the film’s story.

According to Variety, Jamie said, “We realised what an important story this is to the Czech Republic and we felt a great deal of pressure to tell it in an appropriate way and honour the men and women involved.

“I really hope that we’ve done that. We’re very proud of the movie and I hope that we’ve done the country proud as well.”

The film, directed by Sean Ellis, tells the true story of Operation Anthropoid – the mission to kill the head of SS Reinhard Heydrich aka ‘The Butcher of Prague’, also known as one of the main architects of the Holocaust.

Jamie and Cillian play Jan Kubis and Josef Gabcík, the real-life soldiers from Czechoslovakia’s army-in-exile who were sent to assassinate the German Nazi.

Sean Ellis has spent the guts of 15 years working on bringing this story to the screen, and said it was a great honour to attend the premiere in the Czech Republic.

“I dedicate this film to the men and women of the former Czechoslovakia who stood up against tyranny with indomitable spirit and sacrificed everything for what they believed,” he said.

An Irish release date for the film is yet to be announced.
