The Fall star pens new film inspired by Conor McGregor

Bronagh Taggart is set to star in a new boxing film as Katie, a film she wrote based on her intrigue with sporting champs like Conor McGregor.

Known for her role as Gail McNally in the hit BBC show The Fall, the short film, titled Guard, will be a new venture for the actress.

“With the popularity of Conor McGregor and Ultimate Fighter I was intrigued by that sporting world – and to set a female against that very male setting is what I was interested in,” she said.

Titled Guard, the movie revolves around what happens when Katie’s father returns after spending 15 years in prison and initiates her into the world of boxing.

“It’s a strong story and a Belfast story. Already we’ve shot promotional pictures at Casement Park and we will be making use of all the boxing clubs there,” Bronagh told Irish News.

Bronagh has penned many other projects such as BBC’s 6 Degrees, Disney’s The Lodge and CBBC series Dani’s Castle, this will be the first film she’s written and the first she’s penned with herself in mind.

Scheduled to start shooting in Belfast early next year, the movie has an impressive team including Emmy-award winning casting director Richard Sterne and Bafta winner Michael Lennox, Oscar-nominated for his short film Boogaloo and Graham in 2015.
