And Simone said: “It’s fun, exciting and extremely different to anything I have ever done.

“I’ve only just started on it, but it’s fun and exciting. It’s Wonderland, so it’s got to be.”

Last week, Simone started working on the film in the UK – with James Bobin directing it, fresh from his work on The Muppets Most Wanted.

She has also been joined by Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit and Alan Rickman.

Recently, Simone was seen here in Ken Loach’s film Jimmy’s Hall and also starred in the BBC’s Peaky Binders.

She added: “I have sore arms from pinching myself. Acting is a tricky career to navigate so when times are good you have to be very grateful.

“I have no idea what made me choose this career. The only answer I can come up with is that it chose me. I just love telling stories, and have always been drawn to that.”
